It is so important for parents to be actively involved in their child's education. When a child is surrounded by continuous encouragement, they tend perform better in the classroom. It is our duty as educators to encourage parents to do so.
What are some ways that we keep our parents involved?
We could use blogs and wikis with activities we are doing in class. That way parents can access them from home and work the same material with their kids. Even if they don't work on it, they could ask their son or daughter about it to keep it fresh in their minds.
ReplyDeleteYes Brian, blogs and wikis will be great tools for parents to use to keep up with class activities. Maybe at the beginning of the school year, we could send home a letter that explains in detail how to use them. This would motivate our parents so they wont be hesitant because they don't know how to use them.
DeleteI think instructions would be much appreciated!! I'm not a tech-savvy person so directions and help would be important for me!
DeleteI teach 1 st grade, so I have to keep my parents informed on spelling words, and current reading and math curriculum that we are studying so they can help their children at home.I also have to inform them of different events and activities taking place at the school since the children can not remember the details. It would be nice if I could just type this information on a blog to inform parents rather than having to print, copy and stuff the newsletter into folders.
ReplyDeleteFirst graders have such a hard time keeping up with paper and informing their parents of the upcoming events. This would be a great tool for their grade level.
DeleteI agree with Brian. By incorporating blogs and wikis into lessons, parents can see what their child is learning about and students can even go home and discuss these topics with their parents. Having this sort of technological reach can be so rewarding for both the parents and the children. At the dinner table students could tell their parents what they learned that day and the parents would actually have some real grasp on the material if they were able to view the blog/ wiki before. I love the idea of keeping parents involved! Like you said, if a child is encouraged at home they will perform better! Great BLOG!
ReplyDeleteThanks Audrey! The things we can do with technology nowadays is amazing. Blogs are indeed rewarding for both students and their parents. The more the parents are involved, the better!
